| Outline of the department |
- The Department of Anesthesiology carries out the following:
Patient assessments and consultations in preparation for administration of anesthetics. Anesthetic services in operating rooms.
Pain
clinic of cancer pain, chronic pain with neural blockade and oriental
method. The department's main research projects are in the fields of :
1) Anesthetic malpractice: Anesthetic malpractices are investigated in view of judgements and risk management. 2)
Anesthesia mechanism: Actions of general anesthetics on synaptic
transmission are studied using slice preparations of rat brain and
spinal cord. 3) Pain Medicine: Investigations of effects of chronic
neuropathic pain on brain nevfal function are being carried out using
proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy(1H-MRS), SPECT, and Xenon-CT. 4)
Anesthetic Mechanisms at the level of molecular interactions between an
anesthetic and its binding site using NMR and simulation. 5)
Autotransfusion: Effectiveness of Acute Normovolemic Hemodilution
and/in combination with Preserved Autotransfusion during perioperative
time. 6) Cardiac Physiology: Investigation of effects of hypothermia
and general anesthetic on cardiac sympathetic nerve terminal functions
are being carried out using cardiac microdialysis technique. 7) Neurology: Nigrothalamocortical projection system by unit activity recording. 8) Anesthesia and Sleep: The effect of anesthesia on sleep, especially on REM sleep is studied using rat. 9) Autotransfusion: Safety of autotransfusion.
