Outline of the department

Clinical activities of this division cover all kinds of endocrinology/metabolism, especially diabetes mellitus, kidney diseases including the activities in Dialysis Unit, and neurological disorders including cerebral-vascular diseases.

Research activities of this division are concerned with clinical and basic science in the fields described above. The main projects focus on:

 1. Identification of the molecular mechanisms of metabolic syndrome and insulin
    resistance.
 2. Search for susceptible gene(s) for diabetes and its complications.
 3. Study for Mitochondria biogenesis and Nutrigenomics
 4. Identification of the molecular pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy, and the
    development of new therapeutic strategies.
 5. Identification of the molecular pathogenesis of hypertension and the
    development of new therapeutic strategies.
 6. Identification of the molecular pathogenesis of kidney diseases in metabolic
disorder and the development of new therapeutic strategies.
 7. Identification of the etiology of diabetic neuropathy and peripheral nerve
    regeneration.
 8. Gene therapy for peripheral neuropathy and regenerative neurological
    diseases.
 9. Prospective observational studies on diabetic microvascular and macrovascular
    complications.
10. Clinical study of bariatric surgery on diabetic patients.
