Outline of the department

Clinical activities of this division cover all kinds of endocrinology/metabolism, especially diabetes mellitus, kidney diseases including the activities in Blood Purification Unit

Research activities of this division are concerned with clinical and basic science in the fields described above. The main projects focus on:

 1. Identification of the molecular mechanisms of metabolic syndrome and insulin 
    resistance.
 2. Search for susceptible gene(s) for diabetes and its complications.
 3. Study for Mitochondria biogenesis and Nutrigenomics
 4. Identification of the molecular pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy, and the 
    development of new therapeutic strategies.
 5. Identification of the molecular pathogenesis of hypertension and the 
    development of new therapeutic strategies.
 6. Identification of the molecular pathogenesis of kidney diseases in metabolic 
    disorder and the development of new therapeutic strategies.  
 7. Prospective observational studies on diabetic microvascular and macrovascular 
    complications.
 8. Clinical study of bariatric surgery on diabetic patients.
