Outline of the department
Department of Community Perinatal Medicine
Department of Community Perinatal Medicine has been established , funded by Shiga Prefecture to provide better perinatal medical care to Shiga residents by researching problems associated with perinatal medical service, including education of perinatal experts, since 1st September 2007.
As perinatal mortality rate in Shiga has been one of the highest in Japan, this department is planning to present the effective policies to public and medical experts by analysis and investigation of the problem as soon as possible.
Research topics
Our previous research have shown the need of promotion of effective
use of limited perinatal medical service in the short term and education of perinatal experts and development of perinatal medical facilities in the long term in order to
improve perinatal medical system in Shiga.
Therefor we research 2 topics as follows.
1. Effective use of limited perinatal medical service

・Sending neonatal doctors to the other hospital not having ones them in Shiga Prefecture
・Study of perinatal death cases in in Shiga Prefecture
・Study of the entry and management system of multiple birth pregnancies

・Education campaign of perinatal medicine to Shiga residents
・Spread of neonatal resuscitation program to perinatal specialists
2. Education of perinatal experts and development of perinatal medical facilities
