# Division of Data Science for Clinical Nursing
We use data from clinical nursing practice, statistical analysis, and artificial intelligence (AI) to generate evidence that can improve the quality of nursing care and inform clinical decision-making.

## Welcome
Our laboratory was established in conjunction with the launch of the doctoral program in nursing at Shiga University of Medical Science. By analyzing data collected in clinical nursing settings, we seek to generate evidence that supports better care and clinical decision-making.
The current establishment period runs from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2029.
## Research Focus
- Clinical Nursing Data: Using clinical data to characterize and evaluate nursing practice.
- Nursing Records and Natural Language Processing: Applying natural language processing and machine learning to nursing documentation.
- AI in Long-Term Care: Developing on-premises AI systems to assist with care-plan and nursing-summary generation in collaboration with care professionals.
- Wearable Devices and ICT: Investigating sleep, physical activity, nutrition, and well-being through wearable devices and information and communication technologies.

- Scheduled to present at the FY2026 Shiga Dementia Forum at the Shiga Prefectural Government Office.
- Scheduled to present with collaborators at an exchange session during the 46th Annual Conference of the Japan Academy of Nursing Science in Tokyo.

## For Prospective Graduate Students and Research Students
We welcome prospective graduate students and research students who wish to apply data science to questions arising from nursing and health care practice. Although much of our work focuses on older adults, we also support research across the lifespan, including projects involving clinical data, ICT, and AI.
