Courtesy Visit by The National University of Malaysia

Monday, January 28, Our President, Dr. Kohei Shiota received a courtesy call from two professors of the National University of Malaysia (UKM), Prof. Sharifa Ezat Wan Puteh and Prof. Zainah Mohamed.

Dr. Ezat is a Deputy Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Head of International Training Centre for Casemix and Clinical Coding, and Professor of Department of Community Medicine of UKM. She is also an expert of Health Policy and an internal medicine specialist. Dr. Zainah Mohamed is the Head of Department of Nursing.

SUMS and UKM have been building a stronger relationship based on the Academic Cooperation Agreements signed in 2011 that includes faculty exchange, medical students’ self-training and short-term training for nursing students. We also signed the agreement to expand the scope of cooperation and to extend its terms for successive five-year periods last year.

The next day of the courtesy visit, Tuesday 29, the two doctors visited the Pediatric Ward of our university hospital and Skills Laboratory of the Clinical Education Center for Nurses, and then were presented at the gathering organized by the Nursing department. In the evening, Dr. Ezat introduced medical education of UKM at the open lecture. About forty students and faculty members attended to the lecture and actively participated in question and answer session. These events and meetings helped us create a deeper bond of friendship.

SUMS and UKM will continue developing effective collaboration in a variety of fields including education, research and clinical science.
