Courtesy Visit by University of Medical and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City

Monday, March 25, Our President, Dr. Kohei Shiota received a courtesy call by Prof. Tran Thien Trung and Assoc. Prof. To Mai Xuang Hong from University of Medical and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City (UMP), Vietnam.

Prof. Aiura, chief of International Liaison Office and Dr. Tani, special contract professor of Department of Research and Development for Innovative Medical Devices and Systems joined the meeting and had a friendly talk.

SUMS and UMP have been building a mutually beneficial relationship based on the Academic Cooperation Agreements signed in 2008, exchanging the faculty staff and medical students. Our President Shiota and the three faculty members are going to visit UMP from April 10 to 12, to sign the new agreement and discuss the best practices for developing authentic partnership.

Prof. Trung is the dean of the faculty of Nursing and Medical Technology of UMP and a senior lecturer of the Department of General Surgery. And, Assoc. Prof. Hong is the head of UMP international cooperation office and a senior lecturer of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

After the courtesy visit, Prof. Trung and Prof. Hong had a lunch meeting with Dr. Aimi, Dr. Tani and Prof. Aiura inviting students from UMP now studying at SUMS, spend a pleasant time to listen eagerly students’ story of their life at SUMS.

In the afternoon, UMP professors visited Department of Research and Development for Innovative Medical Devices and Systems, Wet lab at Skills Laboratory and MR building.

Wednesday, March 27, Prof. Trung delivered the Special Lecture about the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Technology of UMP. Our Nursing students and faculty staff members attended the lecture and exchanged ideas actively in English. Then, they visited to see our school of Nursing and Nursing division at our university hospital. Through this visit, we had amicable gatherings and meetings to build a deeper understanding and friendship.

SUMS and UMP will continue to expand successful collaboration in education, research, clinical science and other fields, based on our academic agreement.
