Joanne Soh Ern Chi awarded the Top Prize of Young Investigator’s Award (YIA)

Graduate student Joanne Soh Ern Chi received the grand prize of the Young Investigator’s Award (YIA) at the 87th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japanese Circulation Society, held from March 10 to 12 in Fukuoka.

This award is given to young international researchers in Japan who are studying in the field of cardiology and who have shown outstanding achievements in basic or clinical research related to cardiovascular diseases.

She discovered that RhoA, a small G protein expressed in the heart muscle, is an important molecule in preventing the heart from aging and extending lifespan, and was highly praised for elucidating its molecular mechanism through a series of original experiments.

On March 15, Joanne and her supervisor, Prof. Ogita, visited the President's Office to report the award to President Uemoto and have their picture taken.
